WMC Accounting Services LLC was formed and is operated by William (“Will”) Colangelo, Jr, a Certified Fraud Examiner, experienced auditor and diligent accountant.
By way of background, I worked for over four years for the New Jersey Office of Attorney Ethics, the prosecutorial arm of the Supreme Court of New Jersey.
I started at Attorney Ethics as a compliance auditor for the Random Audit Program. During my time as a compliance auditor I conducted hundreds of random audit compliance reviews and at times followed cases through the investigative process when serious misconduct was uncovered. Through auditing and forensic accounting techniques, I uncovered negligent misappropriations and knowing misappropriations (unknown shortages, theft and borrowing) of client funds, willful and repeated record keeping violations, conflicts of interest, dishonesty, deceit, and misrepresentations, as well as a host of compliance issues.
Following my time in the Random Audit Program, I joined the Office of Attorney Ethics Investigation Unit as a Disciplinary Investigator and conducted dozens of complex and sensitive investigations.
After leaving the Office of Attorney Ethics, I formed WMC Accounting Services LLC. I decided to take on this venture after experiencing how many solo-practitioners and small firms were engaging accounting service providers that did not know or fully understand the New Jersey Attorney Record Keeping Rule R.1:21-6. This does not stop at the small firms, large firms too endure much of the same issues. This lack of understanding meant Attorneys were paying for accountants to learn, redo, and deal with numerous request for additional information. Unfortunately, in my experience, to often Attorneys are playing for noncompliant and sloppy recordkeeping which ends up causing more headaches. Attorney Trust Accounting requires specialized skill and knowledge. That is where WMC Accounting Services comes in.
